Dianne moved to Victoria as an infant when her father opened his dental practice. She graduated from Oak Bay Highschool and was an exceptional scholar as she continued to study Biology, specializing in Botany. Dianne was the first woman to win the Governor General's Gold Medal for being the top student at the University of Victoria (UVic). Her greatest joy was teaching, which began at UVic, and continued for over 30 years in the Biology and Environmental Technology Departments at Camosun College. Unwilling to fully retire, she continued advising and teaching for institutions such as the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific. For well over 40 years, she was a dedicated volunteer for Needle Arts and Crafts at the Saanich Fair and was part of the Victoria racquetball community. She and Wayne travelled all over North America, in their truck and camper, and explored the waters along the coast of BC in their various boats. Their adventures included international travel all around the globe, where they especially enjoyed trips to Portugal, Turkey, and Australia, but most recently, they enjoyed their time at their family property in Qualicum, BC. Dianne was a fixture in the dog walking community at Centennial Park and Island View Beach in Saanichton, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dianne Humphrey's name to the Biology Department Memorial Scholarship at Camosun College. Donations can be made through the website. Funds are also being collected through a GoFundMe Campaign to install a covered space and bulletin board at Centennial Park in Dianne's name. An inauguration ceremony for this will be held at a later date. Please contact us for more details.
